Christmas Holly Border

INSTRUCTIONS for Holly Border

1. Start with a dark green and put it on in a smooth medium to dark value….but not too much…it will leave build up lines when you wipe out if there is too much paint.

2. Next, use a wipeout tool to draw in some leaves. I start with the center vein as this gives me the direction that I want the leaf to go. Then I do scalloped edges and when doing these think of ‘lips’. Lips are skinny on both ends and bigger in the middle.
Make them go this way and that.

3. Then take a light green (doesn’t matter) and wipe out the highlights. I do this starting at the middle vein of each leaf and pull toward the edges.
I use a stiff brush to do this with. That way it leaves the color and wipes a highlight at the same time.

4. Now, go back and with yellow…or blue …either is okay…but not both…….and wipe out some really bright highlights….maybe 3 or so on each leaf.

5. The little end of the earplug can be used to make the berries. Stamp right on top of the wet paint (think triangles) with Jane Marck’s Light Red…or any red except those Christmas (cadmium) Reds….don’t use those on this. Some might prefer a yellow red to do this.

6. Wipe out the highlights on the berries with a brush and then give them a bright little tiny highlight using the wipeout tool.

7. Then paint in the dark spots with dark green, but use a scroller. Anytime you use a scroller, then use your brush cleaner to thin your paint…don’t use oil….it will pop off if you use oil.

Fire to : 016 or 017 whichever you prefer.
