First Fire:

Eye: Start with the eye and paint in the eye ball with black. Wipe out a highlight on the top of the eye.

White circle around the eye: There is fine line of white around the eye.(see picture) The best way for you to get this white line around the eye is to leave the space of white when you paint around the black eye ball in a circle. Lay your brush flat just outside the black eye and follow around the black circle leaving a white circle around this black eye. If you are not successful in leaving the white area, you can clean it out with a wipe out tool.

Body: Use a Medium Gray color and wash over his head, top of body, and tail. Feather some gray under wing, but leave most of his tummy white.

Beak: Paint just the outline of the beak in Medium Gray color. Wing, and Tail Wipe outs next: See Picture...

Turn your birds around so the beak is facing towards yourself. You can use a wipe out tool, or the sharp edge of a good brush to cut the birds wing and tail lines out. Start with the bottom wipe out line first. Following your wing and tail lines pull from the bottom towards the head of the bird. Move up to the next line, etc. until you finish all the wiped out lines. With a clean brush wipe out a highlight under the eye, and on top of the head.

Second Fire:

Colors used are: Black and Sepia

Body: Paint a black wash over his head, body and tail. Wipe out the highlight in the top of the eye, the top of the head, and under the eye area.

Beak: Wash Sepia on the beak, and than lightly outline again with black

Wing and Tail: Wipe out the wings and tail again the same way you did in the first fire from the bottom wing to the top.

Tummy White area: Wash a Sepia color on the body under the wing leaving most of the tummy white.

Third Fire:

Colors : Gold, Black and Sepia

Wings and Tail: Paint Gold color over the wings and tail next. The gold wash will not effect your black already fired on. It gives it a glow in the previous wiped out areas.

Now check to see if there is a need to add any more punches of black where needed.

Hoping this study will help you to learn how to wipe out any birds wings and tail feathers better.
