First fire
First Fire:

After you have traced him on,use some unscented hair spray to keep your carbon lines from disappearing. (In case you might want to play in the paint too long. ha )

Eye- Paint in his eye with black and wipe out a little highlight out of top of eye. Place a bit of shading around the eye with a light application of black. You might want to wipe some of the black paint off of your brush on your napkin before applying it so it will make a lighter grey color when applied. Make sure you leave, or wipe out the white area around the eye.

Bill- Paint bill in with a light amount of black, and shade the bottom part, and wipe out high light on top of bill.

Body- Head, Top of body, under bill, and Wing- If you would like to see a brighter blue showing through as highlights, paint in a medium blue only on this first fire, and NO WIPE OUTS on this fire.
If you would like to see white high lights showing through, mix together on your brush a medium blue color with your black, and paint in these areas. WIPE OUT the wing and tail and highlight on the head with your wipe out tool. It will show white high lights when finished

Bird Cheek: Leave the white china showing behind the eye area.

Above Wing: Above the wing there is a lightened spot, wipe it back a bit with a clean brush. Place a bit of shading around the eye ball with a light application of black. You might want to wipe your brush off after going into the black before applying it to this area. This will make a nice lighter grey color.

Breast- Place some yellow red lightly just under the front wing area, and leave some white china showing in the back.

Feet-branch- Paint them with hair brown. Now wipe out the claws that are overlapping the branch with a small wipe out tool.

Weeds- Paint them with yellow brown

Red Berries- Paint them with yellow red, wipe out a little highlight on the top sides of the berries.

You're ready : Fire 018

Second fire
Second Fire:

Paint in the Background colors now: blues, and yellow browns. Do not paint them in solid. Think Fluffy Look at picture.

Eye- Paint black in the eye, and wipe out highlight again.

Bill- Paint the bottom of the bill again lightly with black, then paint a small line with your liner brush for the line in the middle of the bill.

Above the wing- You wiped out this area on last fire ....now paint it with some yellow brown color. Blend it with the black you are going to put on next to the body.

Body- Head, Wing, Tail, under bill- Paint it in with black. Now, wipe out the wing lines and tail lines with your wipe out tool, and wipe out the high light on the head.

Bird Cheek- Place some little tiny lines and wipe out some lines into the black edge of this cheek area, where the white and black meet, to make it look feather like.

Breast- Paint it again with with a light wash of yellow red. Wipe your brush off before applying this second application, or it could get tooo red.

Feet-Branch- Paint the branch and feet with rich brown, add this darker color to the bottom side to make it appear like it is in shadow. Wipe out claws again clutching the branch.

Weeds- Add warm brown green and hair brown to the weeds. The weeds in the back should be a lighter value than the branch in front.

Berries- Add pompadour color to the shaded side of the berries, and under the ones that are on top. Add a dot of black in the center of the berries.

Now it is ready for the second firing at 018

Third Fire

If any of the colors have fired out some just add the same colors again as second fire. Fire 018

Hope you have had fun painting this little chickadee project. Keep up the good work!
